Becoming a Volunteer

VOLUNTEERS give flight to The Sparrow’s Nest. At this point we solely operate on the amazing outpouring of support from individuals just like you. Whatever your age and whatever gift or talent you have been blessed with we can use you.

Before volunteering with The Sparrow’s Nest we ask all potential volunteers to:

Attend an informational meeting or learn more about The Sparrow’s Nest through this website. Currently informational meetings are held on an as needed basis. If you’re interested in attending a meeting please e-mail Alyssa HilburnHere’s what you will hear at an informational meeting:

Use the information below to guide you to the next step for you as a volunteer:

Adults (over 18)

Event Volunteers

These volunteers help at a specific event or events. Events provide direct financial support to The Sparrow’s Nest and we simply can’t put on events without these volunteers. The only thing we ask of these volunteers prior to the event is that they provide basic contact information such as name, address, e-mail address and phone number, usually through a volunteer interest form or through an event signup.  This is often the first way a volunteer becomes involved with The Sparrow’s Nest. These volunteers have no direct contact with our residents.

Group Volunteers

We’ve had groups stuff envelopes, inventory our storage unit and build beds, among other activities. Group leaders can contact Alyssa Hilburn to discuss volunteer opportunities that are appropriate for groups.

Support Volunteers

These volunteers work with The Sparrow’s Nest on a regular basis. They are the backbone of the organization and are essentially volunteer support staff. Support volunteer tasks vary based on skill level and background and can include:  event planning, website maintenance, document editing and creation, data entry, donation pickup,  grounds maintenance, professional advice in areas such as insurance, law, healthcare, program development, etc.  These volunteers have no direct contact with our residents. Click here to see our current list of Support Volunteer opportunities. Before volunteering Support Volunteers are required to:

  • Sign a confidentiality agreement
  • Meet with a member of The Sparrow’s Nest staff to discuss skills, interests and opportunities and to determine fit for both the volunteer and The Sparrow’s Nest.
